NZ Staff thinks outside the box to find young talent

Louise McKean and Lini Aiono of NZ Staff have had recent success meeting and placing young talent coming through the Limited Services Volunteer (LSV) programme.

LSV is a six-week hands-on motivational and training programme for young people run by the New Zealand Defence Force on behalf of Work and Income. It helps people aged 17- 25 improve their leadership and communications skills and get job ready.

The young people live at a military camp during the course and typically come through the course with better job prospects, increased fitness and confidence, and with new friends and industry connections.

Two weeks before the programme is complete the organisers hold a small expo where the young candidates are introduced to training and industry groups. In line with NZ Staff taking a proactive approach to finding and placing excellent talent, members of the NZ staff team have been attending these expos to meet and screen people for suitable jobs.

“We witnessed the positive energy and excitement found from new skills and confidence when we visited the expo.  So far we’ve placed more than 30% of the people we’ve screen in varied roles and we are looking forward to ongoing participation in LSV’s terrific programme. It’s a great way for NZ Staff to make connections with engaged young people who are ready to work and take charge of their future,” said Louise McKean.
